  i was just pondering how the wts has, for over a century, been able to convince people to do what is contrary to their best interests with fear tactics that armageddon is coming soon, and i came up with what is going to be my pet phrase for a while:.

  "only religion has the power to compel people to embrace sheer stupidity in the name of faith.

  The Watchtower's Bizarre Omissions

  there must be quite a lot that goes on behind the scenes of the facade of watchtower conformity.

  two examples:.

  the society published "worship the only true god" which was merely a re-edited version of the "united in worship" book.. in this book, they specifically removed the chapter on blood transfusion.

  Help -Legal rights of Witnesses?

  the very name - jehovahs witness - would imply that when a person is one of that religion, it is his belief that in order to be part of the religion he must give witness.. why is it then that a person who was baptized as a jw, but then da'd or df'd by the organization is not allowed to practice his faith?

  to witness?

  people are cast out and told that the privilege of witnessing is no longer theirs, but given the 'freedom to worship' in the usa, is this not against the right of all people to practice freedom of their religion if they so choose?

  I don't imagine there's any harm in posting this WT quotation a second time in one week. It still has me baffled; I have an idea what's involved with Christianity, but I haven't clue what the WT's up to:

  "A basis for approved fellowship with Jehovah's Witnesses cannot rest merely on a belief in God, in the Bible, in Jesus Christ and so forth...Simply professing to have such beliefs would not authorize one to be known as one of Jehovah's Witnesses. Approved association with Jehovah's Witnesses requires accepting the entire range of the true teachings of the Bible, including those Scriptural beliefs that are unique to Jehovah's Witnesses." -- WT 4/1/86, p. 31

  I guess Jehovah, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit must defer to the "Slave." After all, hasn't the slave become [in his mind] greater than the Master?

  in lieu of flowers, donations made to the world wide work of jehovah's witnesses would be appreciated by the family.. anybody ever seen a witness family do this before?

  i saw it in an obit in a newspaper online and it made me sick!

  most people ask for donations to non-profit organizations that help fight disease like cancer, etc.

  Ditto Steve2's comments. My nest is empty. I think of those moments -- fewer and shorter -- when I can visit with my loved ones. And I replay them over and over. I foresee no change, yet I may have ONE wonderful moment again, such as that with your mother. Your magnanimity and largeness of heart will prevail. Do you remember Melanie from GONE WITH THE WIND? How she treated Katie Scarlett O'Hara after Scarlett's brazen lunge at poor, weak Ashley is a testament to the saying "love conquers all." Of course, it's the storyline. But I've known people like Melanie: 'Look everybody, here's our darling Scarlett. India, say hello to Scarlett.' Words to that effect.
